Keystone Heights sits in the sandhills at the south end of Clay County, where the lakes, the sand pine and the longleaf make for a different kind of tree work than the river side of the county. We run down there regularly and quote every job on site.
The sandhills around Keystone hold slash, longleaf and sand pine in dry, loose soil that gives up its grip quickly in high wind. Tall pines close to a roof are the most common call we get out here, and the first thing we look at is the root plate, not the canopy.
Homes on Lake Brooklyn, Lake Geneva and the smaller lakes have wind coming off open water and limited room between the house, the dock and the treeline. Those removals get rigged down in sections so nothing lands on a deck, a boathouse or a seawall.
Plenty of properties out here sit on several acres down a sand drive. We scout access before scheduling so the crew arrives with equipment that can actually get in, and we clear brush, scrub oak and palmetto for pasture, driveways and new builds.
Dry sandhill scrub burns, and thick undergrowth against a structure is the part you can control. Clearing brush back from the house, limbing up low branches and taking out dead pine reduces the fuel sitting next to your walls.
